I am learning Greek and want to use Greek fonts in my word processor? How can I do this?

KEYBOARDS
Firstly some general advice. You don't need one, but I would recommend that you obtain a keyboard with Greek characters on it. It is NOT essential, but it will make life a little easier for you. Depending where you live, you may have difficulty sourcing one. I picked one up for under £10 in Corfu town, three or four years ago. In the UK, I suggest you hunt around areas with high levels of Greek or Greek Cypriot populations. E.g. Wood Green in North West London.

FONTS
Loading Greek fonts will differ depending upon what operating system you use.

If you go to www.hri.org/fonts you will find a variety of links to pages that give detailed instructions on how to cope with the Greek language on your PC as it is not just a case of installing the relevant fonts. (I hope that I am not teaching you to 'suck eggs'!) Information is also available for operating systems other than Windows.

Several people struggle using symbol fonts in Windows. This is NOT necessary. I would encourage you to install 'proper' Greek fonts. They are available on the web and a Google search (http://www.google.com) will provide many sources.

If you go to http://www.forthnet.gr/greek.html you will find greek fonts to download. There are also useful instructions on how to cope with web browsers and EMail and a greek spellchecker for Word for Windows.
