Those familiar with the road that runs from Mesonghi along the coast to Petriti will doubtless agree that it is a truly picturesque route along some of Corfu’s most unspoilt coastline.
Dotted along this road are a few tavernas that we will hopefully get to visit in due course. One that we have visited is the Kalami Fish Taverna which we would recommend highly.
The last time we visited was during June this year (2010). It was around midday when four of us arrived in Boukari at the Kalami Taverna and so we decided that a drink was in order. Ouzo was the drink of choice except for our friend, Chris, who stuck with the coffee! My request for mezes was met with a question. Did we just want some appetisers or a meal. I opted for the meal. For once, I got it right!
We were amazed at the meze when it arrived. It was certainly enough for four and comprised, king prawns, gavros, kalamari and grilled octopus. To say that it tasted as good as it looked didn’t do it justice. It was so good, that Tricia and I began to fear the cost, such has been some of our experiences this year! The cost for this feast? Eighteen euros between four. (Drinks on top of that!) Superb! We will return. The location on the waters edge makes it just that little bit special. We always say that the South of the island is one of the best kept secrets. However, this one deserves spreading about!
